Scotland T20 WC Squads: T20 World Cup Squad– Cricket Scotland today announced their 15-man squad for next months ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. They will be led by Richie Barrington including Chris Graves who made his debut in the ICC T20 World Cup last year. xxv holds at the gate and sheriff at Barrington Cross.
The team also included the never-before-seen Brendan McMullan who impressed as an all-rounder with both bat and ball in regional series and Team A matches. He will provide the team with the ability to be versatile in any role.
The selection follows an exciting weekend of mens T20 Blitz cricket in Ayr and Clydesdale where depth of skill was demonstrated and 40 player options were considered.
Its great to see the other young players performing under pressure and there is no doubt that their opportunities will come soon said Scotland mens coach Shane Burger. Having over 40 names on the selection board is a testament to developing the talent base and giving options to the senior mens team.
Scotland will look to veteran Richie Barrington George Munsey Matt Cross and Callum McLeod to lead their batting attack while bowlers Mark Watt Savian Sharif Hamza Taher Brad Will and Josh Davey have 188 t20 international wickets. They
Berger continued: “We are very excited and excited to announce the 15 players who will participate in the T20 World Cup. We picked 15 that we thought would have the desired effect we were looking for. We hope to see players who do not go to the World Cup challenge themselves for international recognition in the next few years.
The team has a mix of youth and experience with local players and county representatives. Team balance and chemistry play an important role in the World Cup. We believe we have selected a player who is healthy and able to perform under pressure with a good combination of the above factors.
Cricket Scotland Interim Head of Performance Toby Bailey said: I would like to thank George Salmond for chairing the selection meeting and Muneeb Iqbal for his advisory role. These two roles provide a useful challenge to the vetting and thorough process that helps Sheinberger and the selectors select the World Cup squad.
